Disco&Mercy in August...

We've got three cool nights awaiting us this month: we return to Paradise by way of Kensal Green for round 5 of our monthly residency at the loveliest boozer in West London; we'll be back at The Lauriston for another session of funk, 80s classics and some boozey singalongs, plus we'll be special guests of Hat Club Boutique, which marks it's debut at the swanky Tabernacle Street bar McQueen.

First up is The Paradise on Friday 13th August - unlucky for some maybe, but not for those of us who'll get to enjoy the DJ stylings of our very special guest for that evening: Andy Whittaker, label manager for the R&S, 2020Vision and Redux record labels. As well as being at the forefront of these three massively respected labels, he's also a handy DJ: His five year residency at Asylum in Leeds has seen him warm up for, and play alongside, the likes of Danny Krivit, Maurice Fulton, Metro Area, Theo Parrish, Gilles Peterson, Prins Thomas, Henrik Schwarz, Jazzanova and many more. Andy will be in the 9.30-11.30 slot previously inhabited by Ali Tillett (Warm Music) and Dolan Bergin (Electric Minds), whilst Disco&Mercy will as ever be following up with another typically anything-goes selection of boogie funk, glam disco, classic house and jubilant hands-in-the-air anthems.

The following night - Saturday 14th August - will see us headlining the disco room for Hat Club Boutique, the new night from the founders of hugely popular international Hat Club branded parties, where the headgear's as funky as the music. We'll be donning our best doo rags to top the ground floor line-up at the recently launched new party venue, formerly known as The Tabernacle, with a full-on party set comprised of our biggest dancefloor battle weapons. Downstairs is all about house with Hat Club's Lewi Five-O and Damien Stone joined by a selection of special guests.

After that double-whammy, we'll be taking a week to recharge before it's time to join the lovely people of The Lauriston - for whom we had one of our favourite gigs of the year for their Lovebox afterparty - on Saturday 21st August. This month's session is set to be somewhat lower-key than July's mischief-a-rama, but as ever, it will be funk-fuelled fun all the way. Then all thoughts turn to September, when we'll be preparing our debut on a certain white island in the med...

Disco&Mercy's July offerings...

  • We return for The Paradise Show with special guest Ali Tillett (Warm Music) on Friday 9th July
  • Also hosting The Lauriston's Lovebox afterparty on Saturday 17th July

Ahoy-hoy! We're back at The Paradise on Friday 9th July for the fourth night of our monthly residency at West London's premier party pub, when we'll be joined by Warm Music boss Ali Tillett on guest DJ duties.

Since starting Warm in 2000, Ali has helped turn his fledgling agency into one of the dance music's most influential stables, with a selection of artists that's helped define all that's exciting about house music today.

Its roster of deep house and disco-influenced DJs and live acts is populated by key figures in the shift of underground house & techno from cold, austere mimimalism to the warm house and disco grooves that now soundtrack many of the world's most forward-thinking club nights – artists on the roster include the Innervisions gang (including Dixon, Âme, Henrik Schwarz, Marcus Worgull); Horse Meat Disco; DFA's Tim Goldsworthy; Beats In Space jock Tim Sweeney; emerging stars such as Tensnake, I:Cube, The Revenge and Azari & III; and Friendly Fires, who signed to Warm as their agency for the DJ bookings that are now as much an attraction as the band's own live performances. Aside from the agency and artist management, Warm has also established a reputation as being one of London's best club nights, with events at Plastic People, Corsica Studios and the Horse & Groom that have showcased the artists on their line-up and many more likeminded souls including Move D, Sebo K and Jamie Jones.

Ali will join Disco&Mercy to fill the early night slot previously taken by Dolan Bergin (electric minds), Dan Keeling (BubbleClub) and Leo Walton (It's Bigger Than), taking the reigns from 9pm with a blend of the deep, slow tempo house and sparkling disco to get the Paradise brought to the boil before Disco&Mercy take charge for another selection of disco grooves, house bangers and straight-up party classics.

The following week will see us return east-side for another night at The Lauriston, the Victoria Park-based pub which has become the unofficial afters venue for all Victoria Park events. Saturday 17th July will see the us playing 80s & 90s pop, funk and hip hop at the pub's Lovebox afterparty, which will include a special later-than-usual license for a 2am finish.

Friday 11th June: The Paradise Show with Dolan Bergin (electric minds)

We're back at West London's best party pub once again in a couple of weeks, when we'll be joined by our special guest Dolan Bergin (electric minds) for another installment of our monthly Paradise residency.

Beginning life as an East London party in 2005, Dolan's electric minds project pre-empted the current new wave of appreciation for disco and deep house, regularly booking acts such as Mock & Toof, John Daly, Yam Who? and Mark Seven. Before long, the electric minds label was born, with the likes of Mark E, Chaz Jankel, Toby Tobias and Faze Action all featuring on the imprint's output since 2007. Further success arrived in 2009 when the label put out a special tribute to Arthur Russell covers LP, scored a Juno chart-topping 12” from Lil Tony and Yam Who?, and Dolan embarked on a tour of Japan and Australia as well as festival appearances across Europe.

2010 is set to be a watershed year for electric minds, having just kicked off a series of Resident Advisor-sponsored loft parties featuring Innervision's Marcus Worgull, Move D, Tony Lionni and Secretsundaze's Giles Smith & James Priestley. Dolan will be bringing a selection of his finest disco cuts to set the tone of the evening in the 9-11 slot, before Disco&Mercy take over until the night's close.

THE PARADISE SHOW WITH SPECIAL GUESTS DAN KEELING & LEO GREENSLADE: FRIDAY 7TH MAY, THE PARADISE, W10

Following our Paradise debut in April, which proved to be one of the most fun nights we’ve played, we’re delighted to announce the next night of Disco&Mercy shenanigans at one of West London’s best boozers, when we’ll be joined by DAN KEELING (Bubble Club) and LEO GREENSLADE (YoYo/Greenmoney) for disco beats and cosmic treats.

Dan Keeling aka Bubble Club (www.bubbleclubmusic.com) is a Queens Park-based producer, DJ and record collector whose recent self-released EPs mark him out as a production talent to watch. His latest Violet Morning Moon EP is currently record of the week at Piccadilly Records (http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/products/BubbleClub-VioletMorningMoonInc.EricDuncanRemix-BubbleClub-68463.html) , and is a perfect demonstration of the kind of grooves his set will provide. His latest mixes are available to download via his Soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/bubble-club

Dan will be joined by one of West London’s best loved DJs, Leo Greenslade. With his YoYo Thursday night throwdowns at Notting Hill Arts Club firmly established as the foremost urban music night in the capital, Leo has recently stepped up into the role of producer as one half of Greenmoney (www.myspace.com/greenmoneymusic), a hip-hop/electro mash-up duo with several with high-profile remixes for Kanye West, Amp Fiddler, Kid Cudi and Crookers; DJ sets at fabric, matter and Annie Mac Presents; and guest mixes on 1Xtra and Ministry of Sound Radio under their low-slung belts. Leo will be going solo on this occasion, digging deep into his crate of 12s to indulge in his love for classic funk, disco and house.

Once again we'll follow-up the special guests with a genre-spanning headline set til the night’s close – for a taster of what will be in store you can download our set from our Yard outing last week:

Upcoming capers....

Lots going on at D&M HQ at the moment, with a new DJ mix currently being concocted, a steady run of gigs for the next few weekends, a weekend sojourn to Berlin and some potentially VERY EXCITING one-off summer gigs in the works.

First things first though, there's the small matter of payday coming up, which not only means it's time for us to prepare ourselves for our 4th Yard takeover (Facebook event page this-a-way), but also a May Day Bank Holiday. We'll be kicking off the 3-day weekend on Friday 30th April at our favourite East London basement bar from 8pm-2am, with a special guest in tow: Mixmag Editor-at-Large, Tensnake manager, More Music label chief and all-round mover & shaker RALPH MOORE. Diddy's dance music go-to guy will be bringing his encyclopaedic knowledge of all the greatest pop music ever made for a special set from 10-11, before we try manfully to follow his selection of outright classics with our own discofunk vibes, and probably working in a couple of cheeky deep house chuggers for the hell of it as we did last month. As ever, it's free entry and the pizzas are bloody lovely.

A week after that we'll be back at The Paradise for our West London residency, when our special guests will be Dan Keeling and Leo Greenslade. It's shaping up to be every bit as ace as our debut in April - pop back here later on this week for more info...

Photos of Paradise

Pics from our debut night at The Paradise in Kensal Green on Friday 9th April , certainly one of our favourite gigs so far, and definitely one we're looking forward to repeating on a monthly basis (head over to our Facebook group for more pics):
